HITE Engineering provides Pre-Start Health And Safety Review Services in Ontario. A Pre-Start Health & Safety Review is also known as a PSR or PHSR. The Ministry of Labour enacted legislation in Ontario under Section 7 of Regulation 851 for Industrial Establishments on Oct.7, 2000. Essentially, this was the Ministry of Labour requiring industries in Ontario to engage the services of a professional engineer (or industrial hygienist) to review equipment or processes when any one of eight circumstances exist to ensure health and safety in construction.
There are many instances in health and safety assessments of equipment which are presently in an unsafe operating condition. The standards of workplace health and safety are increasing every year. This health and safety process is a means to improve the safety of new or modified equipment, to enhance the visibility of these standards, and to educate. The goal is to apply these standards to existing equipment to bring the whole standard of health and safety in construction up to enhanced levels.”
The objective of a PHSR and health and safety companies is to provide an in-depth examination of an apparatus, structure or process to identify any potential instances of non-compliance with the applicable provisions of the Industrial Establishments Regulation. A PHSR and environmental health and safety services serves the purpose of ensuring that any such hazards are removed or controlled before the item under review is used. A health and safety assessment can be conducted prior to first use or in support of an effort to bring used/modified equipment up to present day standards.
Join our One-Day Pre-Start Health & Safety Review Training Seminar at HITE Engineering for better workplace safety. This training covers Ontario’s rules and makes PHSR’s easy to understand. Typically, an engineer must conduct a PSR. Additionally, a PSR for Table Item 8 (hazardous biological or chemical agents) may be conducted by a person with specialized, special expertise, or professional knowledge or qualifications.
The Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR) is one of the fundamental instruments for managing change. In order to make sure that potential hazards have been adequately addressed, a PSSR consists of a checklist of items that must be thoroughly verified before a process begins or is restarted.
When a building, piece of machinery, or process is built, added to, or installed in the workplace, a Pre-Start Health & Safety Review (PSR) is necessary.
