Steel Industry Risk Solution

HITE Engineering serves the steel industry by providing solutions that are safe and practical. It is difficult to guard all hazards and there are very strict PPE requirements (hardhats, gloves, safety glasses, boots, fire retardant and heavy clothing, etc.) that have to be adhered to.

The Ministry of Labour has recognized the special hazards associated with the steel industry and targeted safety in these facilities with sections of the green book (Ontario Regulation 851). In addition to the regulations relating to machine guarding and material handling, there are several regulations specific to molten material; sections 87 to 102. They have also mandated a Pre-Start Health & Safety Review for any factory that produces or handles molten material under S.7 of O.Reg.851 when there is a change in guarding or engineering controls (safe work procedures where guarding is not possible or practical). The applicable sections are 87.3, 87.4, 87.5 and 88, subsections 90 (1), (2) and (3), and sections 91, 92, 94, 95, 96, 99, 101 and 102.
